Program for the Conference

Almost one week for the big day and it is about time to start getting ready for it. Here is the program of the congress in order to inform all the participants and guests:

Second day at the congress and closing

Second and last day of the conference passed! Today has started with the paper presented by Dra. Amaya Fernández, from the UPV/EHU, who has been dealing with the topic of Imperialism and War in Tolkien's work. Following Amaya Fernández, the former scholar from the faculty Dr. Miguel Ayerbe has brought the paper under the title of “J.R.R. Tolkien y la épica germánica heroica: la imagen del héroe”. In a third round, and finishing with the morning papers, the scholar of the faculty of Lisbon, Dra. Angélica Varandas has presented her paper on the link between Tolkien and Beowulf, followed by Fernando Cid, from Asociación Española de Orientalistas de la Universidad Autónoma de Madrid.

In the afternoon, Dra. Ana María Mariño, from the University of Leon has brought her paper about the paper of women in Tolkien's work, followed by the watching of a short documentary about Tolkien presented by Dr. Martin Simonson. 

To conclude with the congress, Dr. Raúl Montero and Dr. Martin Simonson have thanked all the participants of the congress. After that, Dr. Asle Toje, from Norway, has given a special session to close the congress. Here we have some photos of this so interesting day:

First day at the Conference

The "VI International Conference on the Inklings" has begun today at the Faculty of Arts of Vitoria-Gasteiz. We have been delighted with the scholars who have presented their papers on the issue about the Inklings.

The day has started with the papers by the MA students Andoni Cossio and Maddi Susperregi, students form the UPV/EHU, followed by the paper presented by Dr. Rosario Monterio, from the University of Lisbon. After a coffee break, Dr. Sale Loje, from the Norwegian Nobel Institute, has given a presentation about strategies in the work of Tolkien. Finally, the regular guest of the conference, Dr. Eduardo Segura, from the University of Granada, has spoken this time about the link of the Inklings and war.

The day has concluded with some readings from Tolkien’s works by members of the smial El Dragón Verde.

Second day at the conference and closing

Second and last day of the conference passed! Today has started with the paper presented by Dr. Luis Florencio Díaz, from the UPV/EHU, who has been dealing with Stephen King's "The Body" novel. Following Dr. Luis Florencio, the new scholar from the faculty Amaya Fernandez Menicucci has brought the paper under the title of "The Subversion of Elves and Barbarians in the Works of Terry Pratchett”. In a third round, and finishing with the morning papers, the former scholar of the faculty Dr. Miguel Santamaría has presented his paper on the translation of J. R. R. Tolkien's works.

For the beginning of the afternoon, the congress continued with a round table with all the participants (exept Dr. Ayerbe and Dr. Zemjlic), also having as a guest of the conference Raúl Pérez, from the Sociedad Tolkien Española. In this session, our guests debated about the topics presented between the two days of congress and put ideas in common. 

Finally after a short break for coffee, Dr. Miguel Ayerbe, also from the UPV/EHU, has presented his paper about the importance of the influence of the Nordic sagas on "El cantar de los Nibelungos".

First day at the conference

The "III International Conference on the Inklings" has begun today at the Faculty of Arts of Vitoria-Gasteiz. We have been delighted with the scholars who have presented their papers on the issue about the Inklings.

The day has started with the paper by Dr. Matías Zamjlic, from from the University of Milan, who has presented his paper on C. S. Lewis' pieces of works and their representation on cinema. As a second round, Dr. Eduardo Segura, who has been with us in previous conferences, has presented his paper about the importance of Death in Tolkien's Middle Earth. These two papers have lent to the hearers to participate actively and therefore throw questions to the speakers.

Also, in the last presentation, as in the last two conferences, Paul Urkijo has presented his project under the title "Cuchillo McGregor y el vasco" and after that he has been speaking about his future projects. 

After the papers, all the guests have been invited to a small meeting with snacks and drinks promoted by the collaborator of the conference, Elkar.
